How can your limitations help you be creative?

    What’s limiting you?

Lets face it, very few of us believe we have everything going for us, everyone can come up with reasons why they are not living the life they want?

These limitations come in many forms:

    • Not being able to go back to school because they have to look after young children,
    • Working in a 9-5 job they hate because they need to earn enough money,
    • Not being able to get out cycling and keep fit because of the dark evenings,
    • Not being able to have a relationship because they have to care for an elderly relative,
    • Not getting that promotion because their boss doesn’t value them,

    The list goes on.

The seductive thing about these excuses is that by holding them as true, people get to be justified and right! They don’t have to go after what they really want because they have good excuses.

Now, I’m not saying that it’s always easy, but what I am saying is that given a small change in attitude people can overcome almost any of their so called ‘limitations’

So, is there a secret to this?

Well, I’m not sure it’s a secret, but I know there is a hard way and an easy way.

People who try to break through limitations with shear will and discipline may well break through, but for most it won’t be easy and it certainly won’t be fun.

My philosophy is quite simple on this, I believe in finding ways to make change easy and fun. One of the things that coaching people across the world has taught me is that left to their own devices many people choose to make things hard for themselves.

They believe that discipline and hard work are the way to achieve, the truth is that research from modeling successful people in almost any area of life shows that they almost always love what they do!

I like to encourage people to consider their goals and ask: ‘How can I achieve this and have fun on the way?’ [This is a good example of the power of asking yourself better questions; remember your unconscious mind will answer whatever you ask]

Personally I have come to realise that I love to be creative and I have found that by seeing my limitations as challenges to me creativity, I always seem to find a way to achieve what I set out to do.

You might like to think of how an architect designs a cliff top building - do you think a great architect thinks. Shoot! I could build a great house, if only it was on a perfect flat piece of land? Or do you think she sees the limitations and challenges of the location as a challenge to her creativity and skills?

So, I’d like to encourage you to ask:

‘What are reasons I give myself for not achieving and how could I use these to challenge my creativity to come up with great solutions?’

While you’re at it you might also like to take a moment now and ask:

‘How can I have fun doing it too?’

    Bye for now,

    Anth.

      Hello Anth

Very true, it is so true, this change in attitude is what is needed, why stick yourself in a hole and ignore the step ladder beside you.
      Thanks
