Even exams can teach you something

Once you start taking personal responsibility for your experience of life, you’ll notice immediately how many other people aren’t doing it. In fact it’s sometimes difficult to keep your mouth shut [especially when you're a personal development coach :o)]

I experienced a really good example yesterday, while sitting outside an exam room. The person next to me was complaining about the morning’s exam paper and hoping the afternoons would be easier. The words of one of my favourite speakers Jim Rohn jumped straight into my head (I kept them in my mouth though). These words are: ‘Don’t wish it was easier, wish you had more skills’. This seemed to me a perfect example of taking responsibility for your life and not wanting others, (or lady luck) to do it for you.

The key to being lucky in exams is preparation, if you have prepared well, you’ll ‘be lucky’ whatever the paper holds.

This is great microcosm of life; have you ever noticed that the luckiest people are the ones who prepare?

This is no accident, if you have clear goals and prepare yourself, you will begin to see opportunities all around you. Your brain is designed to seek out relevant information, but you have to tell it what is relevant.

Luck is where preparation and opportunity meet.

Where could you apply this principle in your life?

Personally, I prepared to be “lucky” in 2006 by setting clear goals (both personal goals and joint goals with my partner Janet). Then we developed clear plans of how we’re going to achieve them.

What about you? How are you going to prepare to be lucky?

    Remember

The key to being lucky is preparation.

    Be lucky,

    Anth.

PS: I’ve recently been experimenting with a new way of keeping goals fresh in your mind. It takes little extra time and its free – are you interested?

All you need to do is set software/screensaver passwords to be descriptions of your goals. This technique works on several levels, kinaesthetically you’ll be typing in your goal, mentally you’ll be remembering and reciting it in your head (auditory digital for you NLP fans out there).

It has the added advantage that your password will be easy to remember.

I’ve been experimenting with this technique since the beginning of this year and have already produced a new ecourse, found a new house and committed myself up to another years NLP training, all using this technique. Be warned it’s very powerful – so be careful what you decide you want, you may well end up getting it.

By doing this you remind yourself of them several times a day. But, don’t take my word for it – give it a go, and let me know what happens.

Live, learn and enjoy the ride,

    Anth.
