• We turn on a switch and we get light.
• We click a switch and we have heat to cook our food.
• We go to the supermarket and the fruit is always in season
• We want fresh water to drink we just have to turn on a tap.
• Friends on the other side of the world are only a call away!
This has brought huge benefits to everyday life and it’s understandable that we want other areas of our lives to be just as easy and quick.
While everyone has their own personal recipe for procrastination, if you are someone who finds it easy to engage in less than important things at the expense of getting your stuff done, then you might want to check out this free resource.
Don’t be too surprised if you find yourself becoming much more productive as this continually runs through your head in the days and weeks ahead.
What’s been your favourite way of not getting your stuff done?
Have you ever noticed how sayings and quotes get bounced around and just seem to become accepted as true?
Today, I want to talk about one of the guiding principles of the personal development, NLP and coaching fields. You’ve probably heard it in many forms and today I’m tired of hearing speakers, trainers and coaches reciting it like it were the word of God.
I’m standing up and saying “The king has no clothes”
Economic migrants are big news these days; whether it’s Eastern European’s coming into the UK, Mexicans in the US or a whole host of other examples across the world.
Arguments abound about the pros and cons and many people seem to resent this influx of people and are worried about how it could affect their lives, the “fabric” of our society or even undermine the “national identity” whatever that means.
Have you ever considered how they might affect your life?
Do you need to put off the things you enjoy in order to fit around the needs of others? Are you a busy parent? Do you have people who are relying on you? Are you in a demanding job? Working long hours to make ends meets? If so you’re not alone. I hear similar stories every week; “I’d love to (go back to school, go for a weekend away, find a relationship etc.) but I have to fit around other commitments”.
If this is you, my guess is that you’ll be surprised to find out that you need new glasses! Read the rest of this entry »
One sure fire way to recognise that you’re are not taking personal responsibility for your life is when you find yourself thinking you HAVE to do certain things. The truth is there is always a choice!
You might not be totally comfortable with the idea that you are choosing every aspect of your life yet, but once all the arguing is over the only thing that you can truly control is your reaction to what happens around you.
I’m a big fan of stacking the deck in your favour by being proactive and working towards what you want. But, no matter how well you set goals, plan and take action some things will just ‘blind side’ you and in many ways it’s how you choose to react to the set backs of your life that will control how your life turns out day to day.
No sweaty exercise required and no gym fees to pay. Imagine building the body of your dreams while sitting in front of the TV (some programs even allow you to eat cake too!!). All for only three ‘easy’ payments of £39.99
One of the simplest ways of improving your ability to achieve more of the results you want in your life is to begin to change the words you habitually use. Most people accept that the words you use are directly related to your thinking processes, but for most that’s as far as it goes.
For many this may seem like nothing more than “psycho babble” which is only really of interest to psychologists and academics, but this would be missing a simple and very powerful tool to take control and improve your everyday experience of life.
How can you use this simple distinction to improve your experience of life immediately? Read the rest of this entry »
Regular readers of my mailings will by now no doubt be aware that being a great coach doesn’t make you a great writer.
Now before I go further, its important to realise that I believe in the power of words, there is no doubt that developing ones ability to communicate is one of the key skills in life and just like anything else that’s worthwhile in life, if its worth doing, its worth doing badly, until you can do it well!
Motivation requires motive, is a nice catchy little phrase, but are all motives equal?
Did you know that motives for change come in two broad categories, moving towards something you want, or away from something you don’t?
If you are someone who naturally is naturally goal orientated, then chances are that you have a clear idea of what you want and find setting clear goals and achieving them comes pretty easy to you.
If you are someone who has gotten used to moving away from what you don’t want, then chances are that you could easily tell me what you don’t want, or what you want to stop doing. But if I ask you what you want, you’ll struggle to answer.
“Away from” motivation is very powerful but makes a poor long term motivation strategy for a number of reasons.
