If you’ve been looking for motivation you’ve probably found it can be pretty elusive. This short video will show you where motivation hides, what kills it and how to develop ongoing consistent motivation.

    1. M Says:

      I appreciate this presentation.

I have read many articles and books regarding motivation, as well as obtaining goals and never received this simple, believable and understandably achievable information. Staying motivated appears clearer because of the explanation you shared. I look forward to future presenatations.

      Thank you.

    2. June Montjoy Says:

Succinct and precise. A lot of message in a few words. I particularly liked 2) Making the goal too small, and 3) Making the goal too far out - dreaming.

    3. MH Says:

Well done Anth! I really got a lot out of this, particularly about mistakes made in goal setting. I have fallen into a few of the traps you mentioned, including setting vague goals and having the desired goal be too far away that it seems unattainable. Thank you for this work! It helps keep me motivated!

    4. Rhonda Says:

Thank you Anth I really appreciate what you have done. I took two pages of notes but the most important thing is that I’m going to act on them and do something with what I’ve learned. Which is that I am a dreamer!
      Thanks ever so much

      Rhonda

    5. Tom Edge Says:

      Nice one Anth!
Simple, diagramatic and easy to understand.
Id like to see some “practical tips” too though. - Perhaps No 2 in the series?

    6. Mike Says:

Good stuff. I can really relate to having the outcome too close as well too far away. When I start dreaming, my expectations become unrealistic & I want to say F*** IT and I get depressed & there goes my motivation. Hey I just figured that out!! Wow.
      Thanks,
      Mike

    7. Linda Martin Says:

Awesome! Clear & Brief! I definitely now see a connection with lenght of time to complete the goal & the procastination factor . Thanks for taking the time to do the video. Linda

    8. Chris Says:

I am good at completing short term goals but have struggled with setting and completing long term goals for a number of years. I now plan to follow your advice with the object of achieving consistent motivation.

My only request to improve this presentation would be to add the story of someone who followed this process and is now regularly setting and achieving their goals.

Thanks for all your tips, I look forward to them every day.
      Chris

    9. Teresa Says:

I really enjoyed the presentation, I wonder if you could produce a printed summary of the points to make a small poster for my office wall? I really appreciate the daily tips as well. ome of them have been reaaly useful but they all make me smile as I can identify with how they would change things for me. Thanks again, Teresa

    10. Teresa Says:

And I don’t usually make spelling mistakes like that!!! I should take your advice about not trying to do too much and making myself too tired :)

    11. JR Says:

Good Advise….I’m going home after work, draw a diagram and begin working on achieving my goals and creating a string of goals for the future. Thank You! Can’t wait for more!

    12. Janelle Says:

Breaking down something that we do habitually into simple words and descriptions, helps us work on the mistakes we are making. Step by step we can see where we can improve and get motivation working for us.
Thanks Anth, your advice, simple and true is always welcome and often hits the nail on the head!!

    13. HMJS Says:

Thanks Anth. Great presentation. A suggestion for improvement would perhaps to use a practical example that most people can relate to, to demostrate the mistakes and to summarise the secrets.

You talked about working out what is really important to you. I am struggling a little bit with motivating myself to complete goals that are not really important to me but I am obligated to complete.

So my question is do these techniques work for all goals. I would love to see another video that touches on this aspect, or incorporation in this video.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

    14. Philip Leaman Says:

A very good presentation. I suffer from procrastination and lack motivation. It seems a lot more clearer now. I do accounts and miss the deadlines. Because of my poor time management skills and my fears I suffer from depression.

I see now that I have got to bring my deadlines forward to me and believe that they are nearer.

Have you any thing to cure my poor concentration?

    15. ELIZABETH EADON Says:

Thank you Anth. This presentation has been a ‘not too subtle’ tap on the shoulder about a huge decision I had to make about my financial future, and my obvious procrastination in making it…. Wonderful how things come to us isn’t it?
Inertia is such a burden, and procrastination is it’s twin…
Thank you again for helping me define and clearly identify my current reality and goals.

    16. Felicity M Australia Says:

Hey Anth - it works for me! Great practical approach to understanding an aspect of motivation.

I believe it is also important to acknowledge that motivation is influenced (positively or negatively) by the opportunities that are available to us in our current reality. Also, once the desired goal direction is set maybe a level of fluidity or plasticity in our goals is also advisable and helpful in maintaining our motivation while on the journey. This means that on the way to achieving desired goals we travel towards our desired goals while at the same time allowing time for going with the flow.

As much as I didn’t want it to happen this way, for me to reach thesis submission I had to bend according to many periods where the winds of opposition (to a certain degree - pardon the pun) challenged my motivation to complete. If I had not kept adapting to external influences, and while also monitoring internal perceptions of progress I would have had to give up before I reached my goal and as you know I did consider that terrifying option a number of times.

What I am suggesting perhaps in a round about way is that goals may appear closer or more distant at different parts of the journey according to current reality (internal thought life and external opportunities and challenges ) and it can be helpful to keep that possibility in mind from the start. Our awareness of that possibility may inform our follow through on actions leading to desired goals. Also, it may be helpful to realise our perspective on desired goals can be skewed at times partly because more often than not we blame ourselves and beat ourselves up when our “motivation” decreases and partly because seeing our progress in this way helps decrease tension while taking the journey. Sometimes knowing you are travelling in the right direction is as much as we can see and leaps of faith (in oneself, God, a higher being) are called for.

Love your work Anth. All the best for future endeavours and thanks for your commitment to helping people towards desired goals for generously sharing your approach in this way.

    17. olivia Says:

Current reality is soley about personal perspective… an holistic approach to ‘motivation’ also includes healthy nutrition, exercise, courage… did I mention good nutrition? The building blocks to health allows people to reach for the stars…. at the core of motivation. Wonderful points made Anth! I appreciated hearing your voice… any pictures in the offing?

    18. Nahla Says:

      Thank you Anth!

I enjoy reading your daily action tips!

I also enjoyed listening to your video. You have the ability to explain something that is/may seem complex in a simple and creative way.

Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge with us.

    19. Helen Says:

Thanks for sharing with us, well done and good luck for further motivation!
Ps My husband has even started (re)sending me your emails if he feels I need motivations in certain fields…you seem to pick the right thoughts to elaborate on - keep it up, we are enjoying the journey!

    20. Delia Says:

      Anth,

This was really useful. The information is easy to understand and the actions can be applied quickly quickly.

      Thank you.

    21. Kei Islander Says:

This was interesting but I now find I am outside the reach of possibly-to-be-helped clients. Reasons for saying this?
      a)age
      b)former success
c)inertia/apathy/acidie - call it ehat you like (it is *not* depression (several members of my famly take medication for this) tho’ probably is dysthymia (for which there is no medication.)
But I truly have appreciated your hints & tips & upbeat suggestions - cheers n/n Keri

    22. sarah Says:

That was a great presentation Anth, I always find things easier to remember when I watch them as a presentation rather than reading.

I have been taking notes when i’ve bin receiving your emails but I think this presentation will stay with me - long after I’ve written this down.

      :)

    23. Trudy Says:

Great points and very well said, I also loved your accent…:)
I needed to hear this today, I will write them and have the BIG notes around as a reminder, otherwise it is easy to forget, too distant from current reality.

    24. Nicoleta Says:

      Thank you.
I don’t even remember how I found your web/sight, but I’m grateful for your passion to share these basic treasures.
I appreciate your tips and they always seem so timely.
Sometimes your suggestions lift my past goals into view, and that in itself helps refocus motivation.
Ironically, I wrote a mission statement that sounds much like what you’re doing. No, not like your method of reachig so many, but by suggesting a better way to live life. It’s like we’re paint buckets, and after reading and/or listening to your tips, my color is stirred. Thanks sooo much.

    25. Stephan Says:

      Good summary.
You video reminds me of Robert Fritz book on the path of least resistance ..

      Steph

    26. Mandy Says:

      That was so cool, thanks.
Sometimes its just confusing when you dont know why you are not getting where you want to go, but that video clarified things a great deal. Thanks again and……I agree……what an awesome accent.

    27. Bobby Says:

Very good explanation of the simple process. I appreciate you sharing this with me and I look forward to seeing more in the future.
