    Where are your opportunities?

    July 29th, 2008

I hope watching and listening to this video helps you understand why it is so important to be clear about what you want.

    Download File

If you’re not totally convinced after watching it and need a little away from to get you motivated to take action, consider that if you spend your time complaining and thinking about what you don’t want in your life, what do you think you’ll notice more of?

That right things to complain about and things you don’t want! Is that OK with you?

If you haven’t got into the habit of setting clear goals yet, you can start easiliy by begining to notice when you are focused on what you don’t want and ask yourself:

    “What would I prefer?”

Then add some detail and your mind will do the rest.

    Bye for now,

    Anth.

PS: Can you see now why I ask: “So how could you have fun doing that?”

So you want to live your dreams?

    March 11th, 2008

Few people realise that dreams are a measure of your current potential; I believe that your dreams are a measure of your potential without many of the limits that are currently holding you back.

As babies we are born without limits and we begin to build boundaries around who we are and what we are capable of as we develop.  So in many ways dreaming is a better starting point than the traditional goal setting approaches commonly recommended.

Are you the kind of person who thinks you make it on your own?

    March 11th, 2008

Have you ever struggled to make breakthroughs in your results, or to maintain motivation and progress on some project or goal?

If so you’re not alone, experience suggests that many many people struggle for years to overcome procrastination, get motivated and take control of their lives.

One of the most common limitations I hear while coaching, is people saying that they just can’t do it on their own.

Can you see how they are holding themselves back?

    Do you know the secret?

    March 11th, 2008

There seems to be a great deal of publicity for the DVD “The Secret” and more generally “The Law of Attraction” all over the internet at the moment.

It seems people are waking up to the fact that, what you focus on, you tend to create in your life.  Speaking to you as someone who understands the power of taking control of your life, I’d reinforce this message wholeheartedly.  You really have the power to create almost anything you truly want in your life and are creating your experience of life with your thoughts every moment of every day.

However, my experiences speaking to people about this over the last few months have led me to believe that many people are missing a crucial detail.

Squirrels always get their nuts!! (A lesson in motivation)

    March 11th, 2008

I grew up alongside our local park and our back garden was always heavily overhung with chestnut trees and oak trees. As you can imagine this was great for a young kid, as every autumn there was always a huge supply of conkers to thread and play with.

However, my dad wasn’t quite as keen because it always attracted numerous squirrels!

As everyone knows squirrels really like nuts, especially squirrels, and the squirrels that lived in the trees around us were no exception.

Now my dad is a pretty good guy and it’s not that he begrudged the squirrels the nuts that fell in our garden. What he didn’t like was they way they didn’t discriminate. Those squirrels knew what they wanted and they were very very clear it was nuts they wanted and they weren’t overly bothered whose nuts they were.

For most of the year there weren’t enough nuts falling from the trees and that mean’s these squirrels got creative!

What sort of a state are you in?

    March 11th, 2008

Do you know the difference between a state and a goal?

Many people are confused by this and I often hear people stating their goals as things like: I want to be happy, I want to be relaxed, I want more be more confident. However, these aren’t goals these are desired states,

A goal is something we work to achieve, whereas a state is quite simply and internal state of being that results from the interaction of our thoughts and physiology.

Having said that all of the goals we set are really the means to an end, which is often a state. For example people may want lots of money for the sense of peace they think financial security will bring.

In coaching we do a lot of work to help people set powerful goals, which are aligned with their values and also to ensure that the goals will work together to move them in the direction they want to go.

There is no doubt that working constantly towards a series of goals that are aligned with your values is a great and fulfilling way to live and does bring a deep sense of purpose, growth, peace and happiness.

That’s sounds great doesn’t it, but let’s be honest, we’re all human so what about those days when it all just seems a bit too much? People you love begin to annoy you, you begin to feel overwhelmed and maybe even jump into some good old self-judgement! The last thing people in this situation want is someone telling them is that they would feel better if they had a purpose or a mission. What many people really want is quite simply to feel better now!

Are you short of time? If so read this today.

    March 10th, 2008

Have you noticed its getting towards the end of the year? [or it was when this was written - how are you getting along with your goals for the year?]

By now you probably know my thoughts on the effectiveness of setting ‘New Year Resolutions’ and I won’t be surprised to hear that I won’t be advising you set any this year. However having said that, the end of one year and the beginning of a new one seems to be a natural time (along with out birthdays) that people sometimes reflect on where they are in life, and what they would like to achieve.

The problem is that most people don’t do this in a structured way and usually set goals that seem important in the moment.

Is a little voice inside telling you, you want more?

    March 10th, 2008

If so, you’re not alone, we live in a technological world in which many people have quite simply lost their way.

In many ways it’s not surprising, we live in a world of bewildering choice, with increasing job mobility, pension’s uncertainty and the break down of the extended family is it any wonder people all over the developed world, people just lie you are asking, isn’t there more?

What do you want from life? (Chapter 2)

    March 10th, 2008

Having accepted personal responsibility for our own lives, the next step in taking control of them is to identify and develop a set of clear goals.

Clear goals are essential to building the life we want, rather than settling for the one we’ve grown into. They will provide direction and motivation and, if well formed, they can literally transform our lives.
